Rural life in China

Farming was the backbone of Chinese society by the Han Dynasty. Large and small farms contributed an essential part of the government’s revenue in the form of taxes paid in cash and grain. Tomb models, or mingqi (ming-chi), tell us about agricultural life in early China.
